Symposium #3: Whose Paradise? Global Cohesions and Global Exploitations
On 23 April, Brazilians celebrate São Jorge's Day, which focuses on the patron saint St. George. The very same dragon-slayer saint is also celebrated in the Orthodox celebration of Đurđevdan and the Muslim Herdelezi festival on 6 May - which is one of the most important feast days of the Roma in the Balkans. Therefore, on the occasion of Romaday 2022, we invite the Brazilian community in Berlin and especially the Capoeira Nagô group under the leading by cMestre Rogérinho to present the old martial art developed by enslaved people.

The group Capoeira Nagô was founded in 2001 by Mestre Pequinês. For the name of his group, he chose a term that referred to escaped slaves at the time of the slave trade between Brazil and Africa - Nagô. A year later, in 2002, the Capoeira Nagô Cultural Sports Associação was founded, to henceforth stand up for the principles and traditions of capoeira in the name of the group. Capoeira Nagô Cultural Sports Associação is not least concerned with promoting the value and recognition of capoeira as an authentic form of Brazilian art and culture. In the last 21 years, Capoeira Nagô has grown so much that there are offshoots in different parts of the world. In Berlin, Capoeira Nagô has been represented by Contramestre Rogerinho since 2003. His group has grown steadily and is now one of the largest Capoeira Nago groups outside Brazil. With us, children, young people and adults train together in various training venues in the east and south-east of Berlin with a lot of fun and dedication.
