Screening of the short film & Q&A with Mihaela Dragan

The Future Is A Safe Space Hidden In My Braids is an experimental film created by Mihaela Drăgan. It perpetuates the ideas and principles of Roma Futurism – an artistic concept developed by the artist, which brings together Roma culture and history with technology and witchcraft.

The film, which is divided into three parts, depicts new rituals and spells inspired by the practice of the witch Mihaela Minca and her daughters Casanndra, Ana and Anda. Drăgan is interested in conceiving a new ritualistic language that holds the power to heal and empower Roma communities. This is why the myths and the old spells of the Roma witches are updated and merged with the poetry of an anti-racist modern discourse.

Her new practice places the figure of the Techno Witch at the centre of the narrative, as the leader of an utopic future in which, at last, the historical cycle of oppression against the Roma reaches an apocalyptic end.
